Cadillac will be featured in the
56th Parade.
The first production one-cylinder Cadillac was built in
Detroit in 1903 with precision manufacturing tolerances set by one of the company's founders
and first President,
Henry Leland. Leland's tolerances made Cadillac parts
interchangeable, a concept that placed Cadillac ahead of many auto
manufacturers for decades. It competed in several contests to prove its
superior workmanship. The Cadillac Automobile Company was sold to
General Motors in 1909, when the Model 30 with a four-cylinder engine and three-speed sliding gear transmission became popular. By 1930
Cadillac's reputation for high quality placed it soundly in the luxury car
class, competing directly with Packard. During the next decade Cadillac
became America's undisputed luxury car leader with its elegant styling, and V-8, V-12 and V16
engines.

The 56th Annual Parade Lead Car
Thomas Wallace of Dayton, Ohio will
lead the 2010 Parade with his award winning 1911 Cadillac Model
30.
After the
car
was shipped from the factory to the Cadillac Auto Co. of
Cincinnati, Ohio it spent most of its life in Morrow and
Loveland, Ohio. Wallace bought the Cadillac in rather poor
condition in 2003 after it had been stored mostly in barns since
1922. After a
meticulous
restoration by the best shops in the area, the Cadillac won
Best of Class and Judge's Choice awards at
Dayton's
2008 Carillon Concours D'Elegance; its first car show. A
total of 10,071 Cadillacs were produced in 1911, a period known as the
Brass Era.
